The Sardine Run

The Wild Coast is influenced by the warm Agulhas Current flowing south along Africa’s east coast. This current transports heat, nutrients, fish larvae, turtles, and even tropical species into the region. Combined with river inputs and coastal habitats, it helps feed phytoplankton blooms, which are the basis of the food chain.  Much of the wildlife seen from these cliffs depends on the productivity generated by these ocean processes.
