The Cross

Originally erected by the Christians of Kei Mouth in 1999 who met regularly at the home of Bill and Gayle Brownlee.  Local farmer Mike Putzier has spare telephone poles on his farm, and he suggested that they were ideal for a cross on top of signal hill.  It was then suggested lighting up the cross and as John Sheldon was an electrician this job fell to him.  John and Jenny owned Aloe Ridge Supermarket.  John met with East London Eskom officials and Mike constructed the cross.   The cross was loaded onto a bakkie and then several people lugged it to the current position.  Eskom supplied the power and electric line to the old railway cottages (Bushpig Bar) and, John and Mike had to bury the cable in the vegetation. Over the years the cable was stolen, and the lights were converted to solar power.

The cross is a symbol of hope for all Christians in the village.
